Dance is an art form that generally refers to the movement of the body, usually rhythmic and to music, used as a form of expression, social interaction or presented in a spiritual or performance setting.
"The body says what words cannot.”
- Martha Graham
I have been dancing since I was four, it was the first time for me that i gave my solo stage performance. I still remember those five most special minutes of my life. I was wearing mustard coloured top and black shorts. Those five minutes I danced my heart out on the stage and was least concerned about the fact what people will think or talk about. Will they appreciate it? But nothing affected me or my performance. From that day I don't even remember how many stage performences I have given as solo or in group. All of this has always been a memorable and freezed moments of my life.
"While I dance I can not judge, I can not hate,
I can not separate myself from life.
I can only be joyful and whole. This is why I dance."
- Hans Bos
I never started dancing thinking i would learn any big life lessons (it was just somthing cool and relaxing at the time). But there are somethings which I found as a synonymous in a lot ways between dancing and life. They both consist of movement and motion, of trying to grasp something beyond yourself (this can be spiritual, artistic etc or anything that makes you feel alive, outerbody and lifted) and of enjoying yourself in the process of grasping that which is bigger than yourself. In dance as well as in life everyone is born with differet set of skills. There are tons of dancers born gifted. But, surprisingly, they don't usually equate being the best dancers around. Te best dancers are those who work hard to perfect their craft. And the same can be said about life. It's not usually the most gifted that get far in life, it's the most hardworking.
My style of dancing is Street Jazz, Street dance more formally known as vernacular dance, is an umbrella term used to describe dance styles that evolved outside od dance studios in any available open space such as parks, streets, clubs etc. and Jazz dance is a specific type of dance that includes several dancing styles such as ballet, tap, jazz music and other related dance forms. Jazz dance is also referred to as theatrical dance that is usually danced on jazz music but can be performed on other types of music as well. So you if you really want to be out of the crowd in there you need to be well rehearsed with the routine and train yourself very well and at times need to be spontaneous. Similarly in life sometimes life calls for a schedule – a set routine, and sometimes life calls for that set routine to be thrown out the window and for you to make choices on the fly. A routine in place is mandatory but the ability to throw that routine away and take care of emergencies is also mandatory.
"Dancing is the loftiest, the most moving,
the most beautiful of the arts.
For it is no mere translation or abstraction of life.
It is life itself."
- Henry Havelock Ellis
